So, I had the dreaded epidural yesterday. I was totally stressed out on Tuesday night, even after taking the Valium my doctor was so nice to prescribe. I took another one when Dan left for work on Wednesday morning, and then I got up and cleaned out my closet. :-)
We left for the surgery center at noon and got all checked in and ready to go. I got my IV, but no drugs until we got into surgery. They had me lay down on the table, and I told the very nice nurse that I was freaked out. They gave me Versed and Fentanyl, and some extra Valium through the IV. Then they started the epidural.
They went into my spine at the top of my shoulder blades and threaded a catheter up to C5-7, where the steroid went. There was a tiny prick, a little bit of pressure, and then it was over. I couldn't believe it. The whole thing took about 5 minutes, and it wasn't painful at all.
I got to nap for the rest of the day, snuggling on the couch with Dan. My back is a pretty sore around the injection site, but I can turn my head pretty much all the way in both directions. I'm at work this morning, but hope to work from home this afternoon to rest my back a little more. It is very sore today.
I'm so glad the procedure is over. And I'm thrilled that I'm seeing some improvement already. I'm feeling very hopeful!
